Eating like a pro
Jack has moved into the new world of eating from a spoon. And while he initially resisted, he now eats like a pro. His new spoon diet consist of rice cereal, milk and some vitamin D. These three combined creates a look and smell of something that would make you gag. But he seems to like it.
Gram is everywhere!
The morning that we were flying back to Nashville from Des Moines, my mom just happened to be driving through visiting a friend. For those who think it was a “grandmother coincident” she had planned her trip before us. She met us at the airport when we arrived and Gram got in a few moments with Jack. We have some great pics already with Gram and Jack and here is another good one.
Flying with a baby or “lap child”
How would Jack do on the his first plane trip? I have to admit that I was nervous. Our weekend would consist of 4 flights. Out of four flights there seemed like there would be a good chance that on one of those he would really cry (and we would make a lot of people around us very annoyed).
But I am happy to report that he did a great job. He was the perfect the traveler. The only crazy moment was on our return flight to Nashville when Jack needed a quick diaper change. Anne soon discovered that airplane bathrooms aren’t designed for changing diapers. But she did her best improvisation and made the change.
Way to go, Anne. (And way to be a good traveler, Jack.)
Crashed!
After our 4 day weekend in Ames, IA, Jack was wiped out. He did a great job of being very social and happy with everyone he met. But once the weekend was done, he was exhausted. Anne took this photo of a wiped out Jack sleeping on the hotel bed on Monday morning as we packed up. This picture has become an instant favorite.
Happy to be headed home
I took this picture of Jack on my phone while we sat on the plane in Chicago waiting to head home to Nashville.
Jack’s first plane ride
Tomorrow Jack will experience his first flight in an airplane. We are taking a trip to Iowa and are almost packed. The one good thing about flying is that it forces us to limit what we can take. When we traveled to Texas a few weeks ago, the car was packed with everything we could fit in it. Now we are streamlined. The people we are seeing on the other end are providing a car seat and a pack n play.
We are eager to see how he does in an airplane. So far he has been a good car traveler, we are hoping he does just as well in the friendly skies.
First cereal
When it comes to putting things in his mouth, Jack has been slow and cautious welcoming foreign objects. It took about three months for him to peacefully take a pacifier and a bottle. And now we have moved into the next “object in the mouth” challenge — the spoon with cereal.
This evening Anne put together a delicious spoon full of rice cereal for Jack to try for the first time. I was pushing for Count Chocula as his first cereal experience but apparently they don’t stock it anymore.
He initially didn’t take to it but after several more attempts Jack decided a few bites wouldn’t hurt him. Today rice cereal, tomorrow extra-long cheese coneys.
Moving up to the high chair
My aunt Mary Helen gave us a high chair when we were in Dallas and we immediately set it up and put it in its place at the kitchen table. Jack probably won’t be eating in it for a while but it is a fun place to put him while we are eating. Here is his first picture in it. The picture is a little blurry but his expression is so great and fully of eagerness that it was worth posting.
